Friends of Historic Comanche was incorporated in September 2000. Its mission statement reads: Friends of Historic Comanche is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion and encouragement of historic preservation for the use of present and future generations. The first activity was to assist the City of Comanche in applying for the Texas Main Street Program 2002 and to raise 40% of the funding for the program. FHC raised approximately $100,000 for Comanche’s Main Street Program.
In 2003 the FHC mission statement was amended to include, “It is our current mission to restore our historic Comanche Depot, thereby preserving a significant part of our rich heritage, providing an attractive asset for our community, and enhancing the economic climate of our city. FHC ultimately raised $325,000 to save and restore the depot. In 2012 FHC hosted the Grand Opening celebration of the Comanche Depot, and in 2018 celebrated the depot’s placement on the National Register of Historic
In 2019 Friends of Historic Comanche was asked to raise funds to replace the permanent outline lighting on the buildings around the square. The “White Lights” project raised approximately $40,000 to complete the project successfully.
FHC continues to periodically offer the sale of engraved bricks to be placed on the west depot terrace. These bricks honor and memorialize individuals, families, and businesses. The proceeds from the sale of these bricks benefit the Depot.
