How to Spend a Day in Comanche, Texas
If you find yourself in Comanche for the day, you will not want to miss out on some of the history, food, and fun the town has to offer!
Learn a bit.
Start your day in town by heading to the courthouse. We know… it may not seem like the best or most interesting way to start your day, but trust us… you won’t be disappointed! Downtown Comanche boasts a historical Texan gem! On the courthouse lawn, you will find “Old Cora.” This 1856 construction is considered the only remaining log courthouse in the state and has been moved multiple times! Talk about a good foundation!
Get some shopping done.
After the tour of “Old Cora,” you will conveniently be within walking distance to a number of shops, and one of these shops just happens to be Comanche’s very own Mercantile. The Mercantile is a replica of an 1850’s general store and is home to local artisan products. Once you step in the doorway, you’ll soon find yourself filling up on old fashioned candy, artisan crafts, and our monthly favorite, Veldhuizen Cheese! One bite, and you’re hooked!
Take a lunch break.
Everyone knows a day trip in Texas wouldn’t be complete without a plate of BBQ! And we know just the place! If you drive around Comanche, you’ll find yourself gazing at the blue dog in town, also known as the big blue food truck by Swig’s BBQ and Catering. This food truck offers a lengthy menu of tasty meals. Our favorite? The stuffed brisket potato or the classic chopped BBQ sandwich. Yum!
Mid afternoon snacking.
Right next door to the Comanche Mercantile, you can find The Soda Shop. Whether you are in the mood for a shake, coke float, banana split, or a variety of other ice cream treats, The Soda Shop has you covered! It’s the cutest little ice-cream joint around.
Have a drink… or two.
As your afternoon begins to wind down, make your way over to Stone Eagle Beer Garden. Grab a glass of Texas wine or beer from their extensive drink menu, a bite to eat, and sit back and enjoy some local music.
Take a load off.
After a busy day, book yourself a stay at the Rest-A-Spell Hospitality House. They pride themselves on a “home away from home” feel and a relaxing atmosphere. The hospitality house was built in 1900 and features private bedrooms, a wrap around porch, fully-equipped kitchen, and plenty of room to sit with your travel companions.
